Asbestos Registers
This website has been developed to outline how to form an asbestos register and
some advice on how to manage the asbestos materials documented within it. An asbestos register
is essentially a document that contains details of asbestos materials that have been identified
within a building or portfolio of buildings. It ranges in complexity from a basic
spreadsheet to a large database of photographs with a detailed history
Why form an asbestos register?
On the 13th of November 2006 the UK government introduced
The Control Of Asbestos Regulations. These regulations effect all Dutyholders of non-domestic (business) premises.
In essence if you employ staff or hire contractors you must do all of the
following;
- Stage 1: Identify asbestos containing materials (ACMs) within properties either fully or
partially under your control
- Stage 2: Form an asbestos register that holds details of the condition, material risk
and location of each ACM.
- Stage 3: Manage the ACMs in your asbestos register to ensure that they are safe and/or
access to them is controlled.
- Stage 4: Train effected staff on how to work safely around the ACMs in your Asbestos
Register.
